Green v. Haskell County Board of Commissioners

cross and sunset

Summary

In 2006, the American Civil Liberties Union, on behalf of a single individual, filed suit to remove a Ten Commandments monument located on the Haskell County Courthouse lawn. Other memorials present in the same area include memorials to the Choctaw Indian Tribe, Vietnam War veterans, World War II veterans, Korean war veterans and settlers marked in unmarked graves. In August 2006, a federal district court judge ruled that the 10 Commandments monument was constitutional; however, the ACLU appealed that decision to the 10th Circuit, which reversed that ruling.
