Summary
Louisiana College is a private, Christ-centered college and seminary located in Pineville, Louisiana. Louisiana College was founded in 1906 to provide liberal arts, professional, and graduate programs characterized by a dedication to academic excellence and the glory of God. The college holds strongly to the traditional Christian teachings on the sanctity of life—from the time of conception to natural death. In spite of the school’s deeply held religious beliefs, the government is applying tremendous pressure on Louisiana College to compromise its beliefs on the sanctity of human life. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services issued a mandate saying that most employers, even a Christian institution like this school, must offer insurance coverage for abortion-inducing drug and procedures. The mandate forces Louisiana and Biola to choose between paying heavy fines and penalties or providing the objectionable items through its insurance plan. Represented by Alliance Defending Freedom, the school filed a lawsuit challenging the abortion pill mandate.
The College has been protected by an injunction obtained by the provider of its health insurance plan.
