The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Christiana Kiefer regarding an effort that began Tuesday by members of Congress to allow the U.S. House of Representatives to vote on the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. The bill protects women’s sports by clarifying that, under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, sex shall be recognized based solely on a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth:

“Title IX was designed to stop discrimination and create equal athletic opportunities for women. But that purpose is being undermined as we witness increasing incidents nationwide of males dominating girls’ athletic competitions, seizing championships, and shattering long-standing female records. When biological differences are ignored, women and girls bear the brunt of the harm. The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act would remedy this by guaranteeing female athletes across the country a fair and level playing field. We commend Rep. Greg Steube for his leadership in authoring this bill and Rep. Jim Banks and other members of the House of Representatives who are taking a strong stand for women and girls.”
